Loan modification do’s and don’ts

The law firm of Carucci Butler, LLC, handles all aspects of mortgage loan modification work for clients experiencing debt troubles, including advising clients, assembling and submitting modification applications, and negotiating with lenders on those applications.  Carucci Butler is experienced with the loan modification process, and the firm has developed an efficient system for pursuing modification of client’s mortgages.

Carucci Butler, LLC, is one of the first firms in the Delaware or Southeastern Pennsylvania area to actively handle loan modification work for their clients.  “A lot of firms don’t know the process, or don’t want to get bogged down in dealing with lenders,” said Cathy Di Lorenzo, Esq., the firm’s lead loan modification attorney.  “We’ve decided to pick up where other law firms have left off so that these clients can get some help dealing with what is typically an unreasonable or difficult to contact lender.”

Why use an attorney for loan modifications?

Lenders are far more likely to respond fairly and appropriately when a knowledgeable attorney is managing the process.

Non-attorney “debt relief companies” are inexperienced, and often more expensive.  Such companies do far more damage than good, and rarely, if ever, know the intricacies of the law applicable to loan modifications.

What not to do

Many non-attorneys will give borrowers questionable advice about how to be more “appealing” for a modification.  This advice is almost always wrong.

  • DO NOT stop making your payments if you are able to afford them.
  • DO NOT move or attempt to hide assets.
  • DO NOT alter your routine financial practices, such as by avoiding bank deposits, paying bills in cash, or increasing credit card use.
